Her foster mom says she is VERY excited to meet them, but she's unsure of her social skills. Since she's finished her meds, she has met several dogs large and small on walks.

She came to us with a pretty nasty upper respiratory infection, and was kept away from other dogs until that was cleared up. She is a young girl with lots of playful puppy energy. We do know from the shelter that she can scale a fence, so she will need to be closely supervised when outside. She was picked up as a stray so we are unsure what her background may have been. Valentine came to ABR from a local shelter. Please consider a donation to help with Winston's medical care. If you are approved to adopt and think Winston might be a great fit for your home, please email the adoption coordinator and let her know! If you live in the metro Atlanta area, and are interested in Winston, please submit an application on our website! Because of his long tail that wags a lot (and feels a bit like a whip) and his excitable energy, he would probably do better in a home without kids, especially toddlers. Winston is a sweet, loving pup that would do well with adults preferably one that works from home. He doesn't destroy or chew the toys but he does shake them vigorously! He often falls asleep that way.ĭue to his heartworm rest restrictions, he has not had a lot of play opportunities but before his treatment started, he loved a floppy fish toy and anything plush. He loves to lay in his dog bed (half on the bed, half on the ground) and rest his chin on the window sill to look out the window. He is allowed on the couch and loves to snuggle beside us and sleep while we watch TV. We find him in there a lot even when the door is not closed. He also barks when he feels afraid on a leash when strangers come up to him… strangers always want to meet him because he has gorgeous markings and they want to tell him how handsome he is! He likes to protect our house so he does bark at every delivery person and most dogs being walked in front of our house. He can sit, is house trained and we are working on the stay command which he is really starting to get. He does great with an easy walk harness but if he just is on a regular leash, he pulls a bit to get to all the good smell spots outside. One small dog even snapped at him and he did not respond. Oddly enough, he is ambivalent about the deer that show up in his backyard sometimes! He has met other dogs on leash and was very well behaved and wagged his tail. Winston has been on heartworm rest for 10 weeks, so he has been restricted with exercise, but he is an energetic, happy pup and he will chase squirrels and rabbits out of his yard. He is most cautious with men, and he gets terrified when a man wears a baseball hat, so his baseball-loving foster family tries to remember to take off the caps before we come inside the house. He is leery of strangers at first, we think he had a hard life up until now, but he warms up once he spends a little time with new people. He is super affectionate to people he knows - his favorite place is in your lap. He is a young, active boxer that almost ready for adoption! We would like to formally introduce Winston.
